THE Watchet and District Men’s Skittles League Front Pin Cup final was held at the Watchet Royal British Legion between two Premier league teams, champions Bell All Stars and Allsorts who finished third.
As expected, it proved to be a keenly-fought match with Allsorts holding a two-pin advantage at half-time. On a difficult Legion alley, skittling was of the highest standard with all 12 players hitting respectable scores. With two hands remaining, the Bell side had a 25-pin lead. But in a remarkable turnaround, on the 12th hand Allsorts hit a 79 hand to win the Cup by 13 pins.
All Stars’ Martyn Ketchen led their scoring with 94, but special mention must go to Allsorts’ 16-year-old Ryan Duddridge who topped the alley with a match-winning score of 114.
The two Landlords Cup semi-finals were also played on Monday night.
The first tie between Williton Club and Dungbeetles at the Railway Inn saw both teams take their time to settle in trying to master the new balls, but at the break Dungbeetles had secured a seven-pin half-time lead.
The Club side hung in there and the last hand of the night saw Williton’s Steve King needing a nine to tie. His first ball went through the pack, the second knocked all nine pins down with his spare ball knocking six more leaving his side as winners by six pins.
The second semi-final was played at the Bell Inn between Wyndham Pinheads and Footy Fockers and found Pinheads in dominant mood.
By half-time they had established a 28-pin lead that they continued to build on throughout the second half eventually recording a 61-pin victory.
Pinheads’ Simon Thomson topped the alley with 107 whilst Andy Duffield led the Fockers’ scoring with 98.
The final of the Landlords Cup is to be held at Watchet Football Club on Monday, March 30 (8pm).
