TWO goals in each half saw Watchet soundly beaten away to Ashton & Backwell United on Saturday, March 14.
The home side moved up to second place in the Somerset County League Premier Division table following the win.
Watchet, which made five changes in its line-up from the previous week, were unable to reproduce the same spirited showing.
After a promising opening they were never really at the races.
Playing down the slope first the visitors had early chances as hesitancy in the Ashton defence led to Billy Jones firing a reasonable opportunity high over and after getting in behind the backline Todd Willis could not profit as a corner was forced.
After surviving a long throw deep into their box from the left Watchet were guilty of falling asleep following a short one on the opposite flank allowing a cross to come in which was headed firmly into the top corner to give returning keeper Jack Harding no chance.
From that point it was largely a case of when the home side would add to their tally and a second goal duly arrived 10 minutes before the break when Watchet again reacted sluggishly for a cross to come in from the left and an unmarked midfielder arrived to sidefoot a volley into the roof of the net from six yards.
It was mainly backs to the wall again after the interval for the visitors, but the only goals conceded came via their susceptibility at corners as a couple dropping inside their 6-yard box led to a header making it three nil on the hour and another leading to a scramble which rounded off the scoring a little later.
Watchet: Jack Harding, Ollie Webber, Connor Jeromson, Eben Harding, Jay Darrell, Josh Aspey, Max Bason, Aerron Clausen, Charley Clausen, Billy Jones and Todd Willis.
Substitutes included Zacc Binding and Chase Clausen.
