MINEHEAD Barbarians lst XV end their season in Counties Two Somerset with an away match against Keynsham 2nd XV on Saturday, May 9.
It is the last and only match being played in the 11-team division.
Keynsham played at home to Avon in the only game played on Saturday, May 2, and won 19-14 to move clear of the relegation zone.
Minehead, who will be chasing the season’s double over Keynsham, having beaten them 50-0 at home in November, cannot improve on their position of third in the table even if they beat Keynsham again.
The Babas have won 13 of their 19 matches and trail runners-up Clevedon, who have completed their fixtures, by 21 points.
Minehead’s faint hopes of the runners-up spot were dashed in mid-April when they slumped to a 34-17 defeat away to Clevedon, having beaten their rivals 43-20 at home just before Christmas.
Minehead have also lost twice to the new champions Burnham on Sea, going down 66-7 away on the opening day of the season, while they lost 33-17 at home to Burnham recently on their own ground.
Meanwhile, Minehead Barbarians 2nd XV will also be in action on Saturday, May 9, when they play away to their Bridgwater & Albion counterparts in Counties Four Somerset South. The Babas go into the game in fourth place in the division, only two points behind third-placed Morganians who have completed their fixtures.
However Minehead cannot catch second-placed Somerton who have lost only three times this season and have accumulated 22 more points than the seasiders.
Burnham on Sea 2nd XV have won this division, thereby completing a remarkable title double for the club. They won 14 of their 18 matches and finished four points clear of Somerton. At the other end of the table, Yeovil 2nd XV finished bottom with only five points from 18 games.
