PORLOCK have ended their 16-year trophy drought by sweeping aside Wyvern United 3-0 in the final of the Taunton Saturday Football League’s West Somerset Rose Bowl on Middlezoy FC’s ground.

Both teams started edgily as expected in a final but on 15 minutes Wyvern had a golden chance but goalkeeper Darren Sherring made a brilliant save to tip the ball wide.

Soon after a misjudged header from the Wyvern centre back saw Caleb Laney latch on to a bouncing ball but he headed the ball narrowly wide.

Porlock started to assert their dominance in the midfield and attacking areas linking the play wonderfully and it paid off as a switch from Charlie Dodd to Jari High was played back into the on coming Ollie Morris who struck the ball towards goal and found the back of the net to put Porlock in front at around the 30 minutes mark.

Ten minutes later Porlock doubled their lead with almost a replica of the first goal as Morris claimed his second of the evening with a powerful finish into the top left hand corner making it 2-0 at the break.

The Porlock management team of James Griffiths, Jason Horne and Mike Mullen knew this game was far from being over and rallied the troops to make sure the first 15/20 minutes of the second half was high intensity.

The Porlock squad took every bit of information on board and came out of the blocks sharply in the second half, first forcing the Wyvern goalkeeper to make some top class saves through shots from Adam Langdon and Caleb Laney.

From one of the resulting saves the ball was delivered by Morris and found the head of centre back Chris James who headed the ball downwards and under the keeper’s grasps to put Porlock 3-0 up and gain a commanding lead.

Wyvern tried to roll the dice and attempted to get back into the game. However, Porlock’s back line of Zac Brown, Chris James, Harry Kivell and Lewis Goodrum were determined to keep a clean sheet, defending with everything they had to make sure the Porlock goal remained untouched as it had been for the previous three games leading to the final.

Fresh legs from the Porlock bench were introduced to make sure the quality of play remained high. However the Wyvern goalkeeper to his credit had an absolute blinder of a game and on another day could’ve quite easily have kept a clean sheet but today was not that day.

The clock ran down and the match officials blew the whistle to end the proceedings and so crowned Porlock FC champions of the West Somerset Rose Bowl for the 2025/26 season, capping off not only a dominant display in this cup competition where they had scored 19 goals in total and not conceded a single goal to show complete dominance. But also to round off a successful season on the pitch for Porlock first team, having finished second place in the league and runners up in the Bryan Wells Junior County Cup.
