WATCHET Town bade farewell to the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League with a 2-1 defeat at home to Worle.
For the second time this season the Red & Blacks came up against a Worle side bolstered by the inclusion of two Jewson Western League players, this time from Bridgwater, as they sought the win which gives themselves a chance of survival.
Again Watchet were a shade unlucky not to take something from the game, however, as they produced a spirited performance, particularly in the second half which had their opponents relieved to hear the final whistle.
Things began evenly until the visitors took the lead from a penalty awarded for handball against Josh Aspey with Watchet claiming he had been pushed. A second goal soon followed after some sloppy defending before Watchet regained composure ahead of the break despite Jack Harding being sinbinned.
On a hot afternoon Watchet might have thrown in the towel with only pride to play for but instead they kept the large crowd interested and Charley Clausen was just unable to get his head on an inviting cross from Jay Darrell. Another curious refereeing display saw decisions now going in the home side’s favour and they too were given a disputed penalty which Charley Clausen put away to cut the deficit.
From then on it was Watchet who had much the better of the exchanges without fashioning a clear chance to equalise and Worle were content to go to the corner flag in the closing stages as they held on to complete the double and take all 3 points.
