WATCHET Town had another reminder of last season's troubles when they visited Worle - who were relegated alongside them - last Saturday and were on the receiving end of a 9-0 hammering in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

After a decent showing in midweek when they beat Porlock 4-1 in a friendly, thanks to a hat trick from Billy Jones and a first goal for Zacc Binding, the Red & Blacks slipped back into old habits and were outpaced and outgunned by their lively hosts.

Unusually, Watchet were able to name a full quota of players but it made little difference as the eager home outfit ran riot. A couple of poor touches led to Worle taking the lead with a shot which took a deflection on it's way into the net and soon afterwards their left back was allowed to reach the byeline to provide a low cross which was bundled in from close range.

Three further goals were added before half-time with shots from distance with Watchet's only response being a tame header by Jones from Josh Aspey's cross.

The second half saw Watchet continue to offer little going forward and although they held out for a while they conceded four more times with some sloppy defensive work and the final outcome could have been even more embarrassing but for some fine saves from keeper Regan Gallagher as well as Worle striking the goal frame on at least three occasions. The one crumb of comfort was a promising debut in midfield from 16 year old Mal Sherring.
