MINEHEAD Reserves hosted the successful West Somerset Vets in a mid-week friendly in what turned out to be a good run out for both sets of players with the season upon them in the next couple of weeks.

Minehead, who will be playing in the Premier Division of the Centregreat Taunton & District Football League, proved to be the stronger side, eventually winning 5-0.

The first half saw the Reserves take control through a strong midfield and the three central defenders of Andy Gubb, Haydn Phippen and Harvey Lovell stood strong and kept the vets at distance. Playing with wing backs through Cullen Bruford and Torren Eldridge it was the latter who made a terrific run down the right before finding himself near the six yard box and finishing a move he started. A one-goal lead at half time was the least the Reserves deserved but this was doubled when Rob Vickers recieved the ball from Luke Batts and he finished well from outside of the box giving the keeper no chance.

Riley Pope, returning from injury, looked sharp and soon scored the third and he was on the scoresheet again following another fine ball from Batts and a splendid finish.

There remained time for Josh Heath, who had a fine match, to waltz his way through several tackles to score an excellent solo goal to leave the final score 5-0 to the Blues.
