CARHAMPTON maintained their fine form in Division Three of the West Somerset Cricket League with a comfortable win against Buckland St Mary, featuring possibly their youngest team this millennia!
Amazingly, the side featured five players under 18 and despite the best efforts of grandad Paul Keal the average age was 30 years..
Captain Dom Westcott lost the toss as a result of which the Buckland captain chose to bowl. Keal and Price fresh off their fine form in the previous week got Carhampton off to a solid start, as Price took a liking to the openers and scored 80 off just 46 balls.
Cameo innings from James Snell who made 38, Matt Long who hit 30 and 19 from Charlie Tucker, including the best six of the day, kept the pace of the innings going.
However a special mention must go to Richard Clements, scoring his first ever league 50 with a fine knock when the team needed it to score a competitive total. His timely innings kept the tail together as he finished on a well deserved 64 not out. Carhampton agonisingly finished on 298-7, just short of the magic 300.
Carhampton chose the youth option opening with Amelie Keal and Charlie Tucker both took a wicket apiece from their spells.
Buckland never really had the scoring rate to keep up with the total required, and Carhampton used their youthful team to help rotate the bowling and share the workload.
Paul Keal ended with two wickets while there was a wicket each for Matt Long, George Perry, Dom Westcott and Sam Price, but the pick of the bowlers was young Heath Legrove who claimed two of the top order batters to start off as Buckland were 179 all out.
Carhampton have one league game remaining - against Over Stowey Seconds at home on Saturday, September 5.
