NEW champions Ashbrittle have completed the season's double over last summer's winners Watchet in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League.
Having chalked up a convincing 134-run home victory over the seasiders in June, Ashbrittle played Watchet in the return at the Memorial Ground in their latest match - and won by 75 runs.
It was the last game of the season for both teams with Ashbrittle finishing with 432 points from14 matches, while Watchet are still second with 361 points but could still be overtaken by third-placed Crowcombe who have one more fixture.
Ashbrittle, put into bat by Watchet, scored 173-9 in their 40 overs with opener Ed Howard top scoring with 70 while Mark White and Peter Woodbury both scored 20. Eben Harding took 3-28 and Connor Jeromson 3-40.
Watchet limped to 98 all out with only Alastair Harrison (26 not out), Jeromson (12) and Paul Sparks (16) getting into double figures against the bowling of Callum White (3-32) and Will Barrington (3-31).
Crowcombe kept in touch with Watchet after they gained an exciting one-wicket home victory over fourth-placed Morebath.
Morebath, put into bat, were bowled out for 157 with no batter dominating the innings although Robert Chiplin scored 38 and Sam Nelson 28. Jake Cornish took 4-40 and Rob White 4-25.
Crowcombe also struggled with the bat but scraped home - thanks to an unbeaten knock of 32 by Hugh Harris and 34 by opener Luke Willetts. Toby Radford, E Le Grant and Nelson picked up two wickets.
Kilve gained revenge for a defeat by Bridgetown in June when they beat their rivals by 53 runs away. Battingt first, Kilve scored 260 all out with Rio Rock top scoring with 73 while Cris Taylor hit 69, and shared in a sixth-wicket stand of 173. Dan Sizer took 4-35 in six overs, while Tom Gliddon finished with figures of 3-37.
Bridgetown brought up the 100 for the loss of only two wickets but were eventually bowled out for 207 with Charlie Gliddon hitting 61 and James How 48. Kilve's leading bowlers were Josh Taylor with 3-35 and Sam James with 3-53.
Over Stowey lost out at home to Bagborough by ten runs. Bagborough, who chose to bat first, scored 271 in their allotted overs with Henry Stirzaker being the star batter with 112 not out, which included 15 fours and five sixes. Dan Raffill made 43, Jack Martin 33 and James Middleton 28. Stowey’s leading wicket-taker was Kieran Barrow with 4-45.
Mark Hill scored 64 for Stowey in 55 minutes before being run-out, while opener Eli Hayes made 62 and Kieran Barrow 29. Jake Bond took 2-53.
In Division Two, Stoke St Mary kept in touch with the leaders Stogumber with a six-wicket away victory over Cannington who, batting first, made 137 all out with Adam Caswell hitting 40 while Ben Gay finished with the remarkable figures of 6-16.
An opening stand of 75 between Daniel Batchelor (50) and Thomas Sweet (23) set up Stoke nicely, with Ian Tier 25 not out. Muhammad Taslin took 2-34.
