DESPITE a much improved showing at Yatton last Saturday, Watchet Town were still unable to turn the tide as they went down again, by 2 goals to nil in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League.
The Red & Blacks had a greater resolve and showed more grit than in their previous outing at Staplegrove although Yatton had many more goal attempts. A
After Harvey Henderson had gone off injured inside the first 10 minutes Watchet were well served at the back by Jay Darrell, Eben Harding and Connor Jeromson. Jack Harding made a good save and Yatton hit a post before Billy Jones shot well wide at the other end.
Not for the first time this season Watchet were undone in time added on when a home corner was headed in from close range and the halftime whistle was blown before the game could restart.
Watchet continued to frustrate their hosts in the second half, but they came under increasing pressure with their own forays forward becoming fewer. In awful conditions with driving rain making the pitch squelchier and heavier there was the possibility that there might be an abandonment.
The visitors stuck determinedly to their guns despite further injuries and their other two substitutions, but were indebted to a series of fine saves from keeper Harding in a testing goalmouth.
Yatton hit the bar before finally gaining some breathing space with 15 minutes left when Watchet failed to clear their lines. There was still time for the home side to strike the goal frame again before Watchet ended up beaten but by no means disgraced.
