MINEHEAD Under-12 Blues were narrowly beaten 1–0 away to Kingsdown Knights in challenging conditions.

It was an even contest, but the heavy pitch meant the game became more about effort, second balls, and winning individual battles than flowing moves. Kingsdown created the first clear opportunity and forced Minehead to defend deeply at times, while the Blues struggled to match the hosts’ intensity early on.

A good delivery from Leon offered early promise, while efforts from Oaklen and Leon showed Minehead looked to threaten.

However, on 11 minutes Kingsdown broke the deadlock with a poorly struck free kick that bobbled awkwardly and left Lou with little chance, giving the home side a 1–0 advantage. Defensively there were encouraging signs. Henry was strong at centre back and produced a superb tackle in the second half to halt a dangerous attack.

Buddy remained composed and dependable throughout, while Ben impressed with several well-timed interceptions, stepping in smartly to break up play. Phoenix also performed well when called upon in defence, reading the game confidently. In midfield, Riley worked tirelessly, trying to drive the team forward while also tracking back to help defensively.

Finley attempted to push on and support the attack but was closely marked for much of the game.

The second half saw improved determination from the Blues. George tested the Kingsdown goalkeeper with a strong effort that was well saved, while Leon fired in two powerful strikes late on that kept the pressure on.

A clever ball over the top from George deserved a runner, and Karter worked hard to make something happen, unlucky not to earn a penalty after being fouled in the box.

Alfie also showed great commitment with a lung-busting recovery run to track back and cover when Kingsdown threatened on the break.
