MINEHEAD'S away match against Clutton in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League was one of a number of games called off because of the bad weather on Saturday, February 21.

Minehead would have been without five regulars for the match, and manager Lee Todd admitted: "The postponement helped us out in a way - but we were ready to go.

"The game was called off on Saturday morning following a pitch inspection. The referee felt the pitch was playable in the morning but it would not have been if there had been further rain which was forecast."

Those players who would have missed the game for Minehead included Olly Prescott, Sam Jackson, JJ Knight, Louie Burge and Harvey Lovell.

Minehead would have gone into the match at Clutton chasing a double, having beaten their rivals 5-0 at home in late November. Prescott, Knight and Stefan Phillips snapped up goals while Bertie Harvey-Lamar and Josh Elston came off the substitutes' bench to net the other two.

Despite not playing, Minehead held on to eighth place in the table, but they have played more games than teams around them.

The big match in the division between Combe St Nicholas and Peasedown Miners Welfare ended in a goalless draw. It left Peasedown in second place in the table, two points ahead of third-placed Combe who have played only 15 games and have lost only once this season.

The surprise result of the day was at Glastonbury where the home side, in the relegation zone, gained a 2-1 home win over leaders Portishead Town Reserves who missed a chance of going eight points clear at the top.

Keynsham Town Reserves stay bottom after they slumped to a 5-1 away defeat at Ashcott who are now fifth and have games in hand on all the teams above them.
