THE ladies of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club have been challenged by the weather and the ground conditions during the last few weeks.
More than one Thursday morning has been spent having a social cup of coffee or two in the clubhouse rather than venturing out on the course. However, a few competitions now have managed to take place.
Firstly, the ‘Driver and Irons only competition. Ladies were allowed to bring one wood only out onto the course. This was won by the club’s outgoing captain Pat Lucas with an admirable 38 Stableford points. Second was Jayne Fulwell with 35.
Next outing was a Florida Scramble, a friendly winter format. This was won by Cath Binding, Hazel Binding and Vanessa Cleere with 66 points, well under their handicaps.
Recently, a Greensomes competition was completed. This was won by Deano Carlin and Ruth Maclennan with 35 points - an impressive score especially with the wet ground conditions.
