MINEHEAD Third XI, under the captaincy of Steve Archer, continued their impressive run of form when they extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches by winning two games in the space of 48 hours.
On Saturday the Pirates were in West Somerset League Division Three action against Buckland St Mary and Bishopswood who won the toss and after choosing to bat first were bowled out for 57 in 17.3 overs.
Pick of the Minehead bowlers was Sreejith Anilkumar who bowled 7 overs and claimed 5 wickets for 34 runs, while there were two wickets apiece for Renjeesh Krishnan and Reuben Rajan.
When they replied the visitors reached 58 for 4 in 10.2 overs, Anan Rajan making 14 while Sunil Vinayak was unbeaten on 13.
This is Minehead Thirds’ 10th league victory and sees them maintain their place at the top of the table, 104 points ahead of second placed Stoodleigh who have a game in hand.
Two days later Steve Archer’s side were winning again, this time beating Taunton Deane 6th XI in the semi final of the WSCL Stuart Allbut Memorial Shield.
After being put thanks to a good bowling performance the Deane were restricted to 98 for 7 in their 20 overs, Ben Cobb the pick of the attack, claiming 3 for 19 from his 5 overs, while Renjeesh Krishnan claimed 2 for 11 from 5, one of which was a maiden.
When Minehead replied openers Varghese Pulikkottil and Henry Murrell put on 46 when the latter was out for a quickfire 30 off 13 balls.
Varghese was then joined by Anan Rajan and the pair remained together to see Minehead to 104 without loss and victory by 9 wickets in the 10th over. Varghese remained unbeaten on 37 while Rajan was not out 26.
In the final Minehead Thirds will face the winners of the other semi final between Stogumber Seconds and Buckland St Mary/ Bishopswood.
