WIVELISCOMBE gained a splendid 14-run home victory over leaders North Curry in the third division of the Somerset Cricket League.

Wiveliscombe, who won the toss and decided to bat, recovered from the early loss of Richard Morrison to score 236-6 in their 40 overs with Tom Welch hitting 93, with 11 fours and a six. He shared in a third-wicket stand of 131 with Stuart Denyer who scored 70, while Neal Gliddon made 34. Curry’s most successful bowlers were Samuel Mould who snapped up 3-66 and Liam Gilbert who took 3-41.

Curry, who had lost only one of their previous league games, got away to a steady start, losing their first wicket with 43 runs scored. Blake Jones looked to be steering them to victory before being stumped by Gliddon for 72, a knock which included seven fours and four sixes.

Gareth Bellamy took 3-29, Morrison 3-39 and James Hayward 2-31 as Curry were bowled out for 222 in 39.3 overs.
