MINEHEAD Seconds were at home to Chard on Saturday afternoon in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League, writes Richard Walsh.
After Chard opted to bat first Rob Spiers soon had them in trouble claiming three early wickets. However this bought the experienced Jon Dalwood in to join opener Jon Scott.
Between them the pair shared a substantial fourth wicket partnership before Jack White accounted for Dalwood caught by Nick Maggs for 68, which contained 8 fours and Braden Taylor dismissed Scott also caught by Maggs for 75 which included 9 fours. No other Chard batter reached double figures as they ended on 204 for 9 off their 40 overs.
Rob Spiers with 3 for 16 off 5 overs was the pick of the home bowlers while Jack White took 3 for 32 also off 5 and Braden Taylor ended with 2 for 27 off 7.
Minehead in reply were all out for 134 in 28.1 overs, Brandon Rawle with 51, including 8 fours Charlie Payne hit 25, Dan Pawson made 18 and Connor Paterson 16 were the main run scorers.
Oliver Legg was the bowler doing to damage for Chard and ended with 5 for 29 off 6.1 overs while Richard Scott took 3 for 48 off 8.
This coming weekend Minehead Seconds make the long trek to East Somerset to play their Frome counterparts, while the AXI are at home to Fitzhead Seconds
Minehead A XI who reached the next round of the Stuart Allbut Memorial Shield by beating East Huntspill last week have been drawn to play against Roadwater at home in the next round.
Minehead First XI are in 20 over Baker Cup action on Monday 8th June when they travel to play Taunton Deane Seconds at the Convent Field in the Davies Bishop Trophy.
