CARHAMPTON continued their winning start to the season with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory on the road against Ashbrittle.
The visitor’s skipper Dominic Westcott arrived unusually on time, but lost the toss so Carhampton spent a scorching afternoon in the field.
Fortunately Carhampton legend Matt Long continued his impressive start to the season with the ball and his outstanding figures of 2 for 7 from 9 overs laid the foundation for another strong bowling performance.
Westcott backed up his opening bowler with a fiery spell of his own, bowling with good pace and accuracy and rolling back the years.
With Ashbrittle at 100-5, the game hung in the balance as Carl Westcott and Andy Hill put together their side's biggest partnership and looked set to launch an assault.
Westcott eventually departed to Paul Keal's left-armers but Andy Hill as he has done for many years, continued to punish anything remotely wayward and passed fifty with ease.
However, he too soon became a victim of Keal, this time caught by Richard Clements, who took two excellent catches in the deep.
Despite a brief tail-end resistance, Keal and Luke Milton wrapped up the innings, with Ashbrittle bowled out for 156 in 36 overs.
Carhampton’s reply got underway with Milton and Keal opening the batting. The pair continued their excellent start to the season, posting their second century opening partnership of the year.
With a good batting surface and a lightning-fast outfield, the runs flowed freely. Milton was eventually dismissed for 59 caught by Andy Hill off the bowling of Freddie Hill while Keal was dismissed for 48.
This left Sam Price unbeaten on 21 and James Snell 17 not out to guide Carhampton which they did reaching their target in just 25 overs and victory by 8 wickets.
