MINEHEAD A sailed into the next round of the West Somerset Cricket League Stuart Allbut Memorial Shield after travelling to play against East Huntspill Seconds where they recorded an incredible 8 wicket victory over their hosts at their Huntspill Caravan Park ground, writes Richard Walsh.

The Pirates won the toss and asked their hosts to bat first. Sreejith Anilkumar made an early breakthrough before a second wicket partnership saw up the half century.

Three wickets then tumbled , two to Nick Maggs and one to Renjeesh Krishnan.

Nick Maggs then struck three more times to end with figures of 5 for 11 from his 4 overs one of which was a maiden aided by tight bowling from Ben Cobb 1 for 22, Anilkumar 1 for 26 and Krishsnan 1 for 16 as East Huntspill were limited to 113 for 8.

When the Pirates batted their innings was dominated by opener Renjeesh Krishnan.

He shared an opening partnership of 84 of which he made 73 with Eldhose Baby who made 7 off 15 balls, and raced to his century before retiring.

Renjeesh dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground on his way to a remarkable century, with several caravans dented and local farmers’ crops reportedly taking a battering along the way!

The centurion’s 102 came off just 38 balls and contained 10 fours and nine 6s as Minehead A reached 117 for 2 off 10.1 overs.

Regarding the team’s performance skipper Steve Archer said: “This was an outstanding all round team performance with major contributions from Nick Maggs who was sensational with the ball taking 5 for 11, and Renjeesh who retired not out on a blistering 102 from just 38 balls!

“This was an outstanding night for the Pirates and a victory that will be long remembered.”
