SOMERSET’S men and women’s cricket teams were both in Vitality Blast action on Friday and by the end of the evening they had both lost their unbeaten records in this year’s 20 over competition, writes Richard Walsh.

First in action were Somerset Women who travelled to the north east to face Lancashire at Old Trafford where after opting to bat first they slipped to 88 for 5 in the 12th over.

However thanks to skipper Sophie Luff who made 42, and an unbeaten 23 from Jess Hazell they recovered sufficiently to reach 137 for 6.

Lancashire were quickly into their stride when they responded and reached their target in 15.3 overs thanks to an unbeaten 75 from Aussie star Meg Lanning.

For Somerset pick of the bowlers was Erin Vukusic who took all the wickets to fall and ended with the impressive figures of 3 for 30 from her 4 overs.

Somerset Men travelled to play Glamorgan at Cardiff in an evening match where after being asked to bat the Cidermen posted an under par total of 171 for 9.

Tom Banton was the main contributor scoring 59 off 25 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes during which he added 51 for the first wicket with Josh Thomas, making his T20 debut who made 10.

James Rew made 22, as did Daniel Sams but none of the other batters really got going. Nathan Mc Andrew ended with 4 for 15 from his 4 overs.

In reply Glamorgan Mae light work of their run chase and reached 175 for 3 in 13.3 overs, thanks to 109 off 45 balls from opener Kiran Carlson which included 13 fours and 9 sixes.

Carlson shared an opening partnership wth Will Smale of 146 in 11.1 overs, before he was caught by Josh Shaw off left arm spinner Thomas.
