MINEHEAD & West Someret Hockey Club’s lsts went joint top of Parrett Division 1 with a 2-0 home victory against Chard 2s. In a re-arranged fixture, the seasiders started well but it was clear from the outset that it was going to be a tricky encounter.

Stand-in Minehead skipper Jones opened the scoring on the 15th minute mark, converting well from a right wing cross, following good work by Orpin This lead was soon to be doubled on 25 minutes - S Cobb tapping in at the back post. Fairbrother in the Minehead goal was forced into his first meaningful action just before the break, reacting well to keep out a Chard short corner. The second half began with Minehead in the ascendancy but some poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping in the Chard net kept the game in the balance.
