THE Seniors’ Championship took pride of place in the golfing calendar at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club during the past week.
This 36-hole medal competition played over two days attracted a large entry of 57 members. Many congratulations go to Steve Lawrence (1) who, having led after Round 1 with a gross 70, returned a 74 in Round 2 to not only win the Championship decisively, but regain the title he won last year.
The top 3 placings were as follows: 1 Steve Lawrence (1) 70+74= 144 (+2 over par); 2 Dave Hillier (4) 74+77=151; 3 John Proctor (8) 75+77=152
The nett leaderboard was headed by Mark Walton assisted with an excellent second round nett 65.

In the Over 70s category, the gross leaderboard results were: 1 Mike Nichols (12) 83+78=161; 2 Paddy Maclennan (9) 76+85= 161; 3 W John Perkins (18) 87+87=174.
The Over 70s nett leaderboard results were: 1 Mike Nichols (12) 83+78=137; 2 Sandy Lyons (22) 67+70= 137; 3 W John Perkins (18) 69+69=138.
Many congratulations go to all the winners in what proved to be an excellent championship.
Meanwhile, Minehead Seniors began the week with a yellow tee Stableford as a pre-cursor to the 36-hole club senior championship.
Judging approach shots and putting continues to provide the greatest challenge with the fairways as hard as nails and no guarantee which direction any shot will take.
Roger Read managed to overcome most of these challenges, winning the competition with 40 points. Dave Ball played steadily for his 38 points, taking second place while Karl Granger took third position on countback from Peter Allerton, finishing with 37 points.
