MINEHEAD kick off the new football season in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League with a home game against newly promoted Isle of Wedmore on Saturday, August 8 (3p.m.).

Minehead, who finished tenth in the division last season, will also be in action the following Wednesday when they have another home game - against Burnham United (7.30p.m.). It is the only game being played in the division on this night.

Isle of Wedmore finished third in the division last season, behind the winners Paulton Rovers Sports and runners-up St George Easton & Gordano. Burnham were ninth.

Meanwhile, Minehead continued their build-up to the new season with a match at home last Saturday (July 18) against a Minehead Legends XI which included the likes of Stefan Phillips, Guy Burns, Adrian Giblett and Will Giblett.

The Legends XI ran out 3-1 winners, and Minehead’s manager Lee Todd was disappointed by his team’s display.

“We put out a decent side but we were not good,” said Todd afterwards. “We had a bad day at the office - we were not at the races.

“We had several players missing but this was no excuse for such a performance - we were poor.”

Todd, who has already made several new signings, has not ruled out adding to his squad before the season gets underway.

Minehead have a warm-up game against a Wellington XI on Saturday, July 25.
