A MORE typical Spring outlook welcomed the West Somerset and Minehead Golf Club Seniors to a new week’s golf which commenced with a 123 Waltz.
The team of Martin Hole, Tim Evans and Karl Granger won on count back with 79 points
In second place were W John Perkins, Mike Kelly and Jamie Cook while in third place, with 75 points again on count back were Bob Arthington, Doug Hayhoe and Chris Durman, ahead of Mark Ruttley, Sandy Lyons and Graham Troman in fourth.
The midweek white tee medal provided an interesting challenge with John Perkins taking the honours returning a nett 72. Tony Connolly took second place on countback with nett 73 ahead of Nigel Moore in third and Roger Read in fourth.
This spell of summer weather encouraged another large field to start the Seniors’ golfing action last week.
The Texas Scramble format had something of a twist with all three players having to contribute six drives each. Mark Ruttley, Peter Chapple and Brendan Cleere found the right formula to record a nett 61 and win the competition on countback.
Second place went to Graham Troman, Tony Connolly and Neville Parsons while Deano Carlin, Steve Gay and Roger Read claimed third.
Later in the day, the Seniors hosted Burnham & Berrow GC in a friendly match. In a very close match Burnham came out worthy winners 3.5/2.5.
The final competition of the week was a randomly drawn 4BBB format.
Played in just about perfect conditions, it was no surprise that this was reflected in the scores returned.
Paul Thompson and Mark Watson won the competition with 46 points that included three birdies on the front nine.
Three pairs scored 44 points with Dave Oatridge and John Burrow taking second place on count back, with Doug Hayhoe and David Atcherley-Symes in third and Rob Poirrier and Neville Parsons fourth.
