A BUSY time continues in Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club Ladies section.
First up was the Dickinson and Barlow cups, both county qualifiers.
In challenging weather conditions, the Dickinson (lower handicappers) was won by our lady captain Jenny Elliott.
The Barlow was won by Cath Binding (35) playing to her handicap with 36 points.
Second was Hazel Binding (26) with 28 points. Both Jenny and Cath go forward to the regional final to be played at Saltford Golf Club later in the summer.
A league match away to Wells saw a strong away win of 4-3.
This last week saw the Powell and Cromer Cups being contended for.
Division 1 was won by Deano Carlin (14), on a real winning streak with an excellent nett 68. Second was Anne Olgesby (18) with a nett 79.
Division 2 was won by Hazel Binding (26), also on a winning streak, with a nett 79. Second was Ros Chidgey (25) with a nett 80.
This last week saw our first Wessex match at home against Burham and Berrow. A solid performance resulted in a 6 ½ = ½ win.
The May medal was played at home in good conditions. First was Kay Luckett (24) with a very good nett 69. Second was Deano Carlin (14) with a nett 74.
This week saw the Ping four ball better ball being contended for. The weather was showery and a strong westerly wind making the conditions far from easy. The winning pair were Eve Bolton and Jennifer James with a solid 40 points. Second was Deano Carlin and Ruth Macclenan with 37 points. Eve and Jennifer now go into the pool for possible selection for a regional final.
The internal knockout matches are underway with the Coronation Cup and Bronze Cup already drawn and the Luttrell Cup to be drawn mid-month.
