WITH the festive season underway, Minehead & West Someret Golf Club Seniors played a yellow ball competition on Wednesday. With potentially two scores counting including a double score for the yellow ball, several good scores were returned.
The much-fancied team of Peter Young, Trevor Stephens and Tom Gliddon did not disappoint, winning with 105, second were Dave Oatridge, W John Perkins and Richard Austwick with 101 while Steve Woodbury, Rob Poirrier and Tony Connolly were third with 92.
The long awaited and delayed start of the Trafalgar Trophy took place on Friday. Nineteen pairs were awaiting the first tee in a 4BBB competition that extends over six rounds.
With conditions looking favourable and several strong pairings, it was expected that leading scores would far exceed 40 points. However, as so often happens with clubhouse predictions, it wasn’t to be and none of the the participants achieved at least 45 points!
Congratulations, nevertheless, to the current joint leaders with 39 points who were Ash Stockley and Tom Cotter and Tim Evans and Mark Watson. Round Two will be played in the New Year and is already eagerly anticipated.
A mention for Lorraine (Hospitality Manager), Sara (Head Chef) and all the 19th hole hospitality team who throughout December have been working flat out with Christmas lunches and evening events on a daily basis. The responses received from visitors and guests has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of the quality of food and service.
Hospitality is such an important aspect of any golf club especially at this time of year and it is so much appreciated when visitors take the trouble, as they have done in their droves, to contact Lorraine to say how much they have enjoyed the experience. We are delighted to receive such feedback as the club is such an integral part of this community.
