WATCHET Town’s Easter weekend began with the long trip to Fry Club in the Premier Division of the Uhsport Somerset County League where the home side took the lead after just 26 seconds.
Two minutes later the visitors were level courtesy of a Charley Clausen free kick . Inept defending then saw Watchet concede three more times - one being an own goal - before the break and the home side doubled their tally including another og and a very dubious penalty to cap a miserable afternoon at 8-1.
A much changed Watchet side gave a far better performance on Easter Monday when they were narrowly beaten 2-1 away to Stockwood Green. The Red & Blacks kept a solid shape throughout which frustrated their hosts and they had created some good scoring chances.
Tom Sparks volleyed over and was then denied by an offside flag before Stockwood took the lead with an angled drive. The revamped midfield of Ollie Webber, Josh Aspey and Billy Jones battled hard and Lewis Clavey showed promise further forward.
Chase Clausen sent his lob off-target as the keeper advanced soon after the break while Eben Harding and Jay Darrell remained firm at the heart of the defence and Charley Clausen again proved to be a very capable deputy keeper.
Soon after coming on after six months out injured, Alfie Cox was presented with a gift of a chance to equalise. It was no more than Watchet deserved only for a share of the spoils to be cruelly denied when Darrell went to ground in a challenge and his hand touched the ball, the ref gave a penalty & the home side took all 3 points.
