MINEHEAD’S hopes of winning their only game over the Easter were dashed when they lost 4-0 away to Wrington Redhill in the first division of the Uhslport Somerset County Football League on Monday.
They slipped to tenth in the division, with Wrington now only three points behind them with three crucial games in hand.
Minehead went into the game without top scorer Toby Waghorn and fellow striker Tom Barnes.
Minehead boss Lee Todd said: “We were very good for the opening 35 minutes and played some really good football.
“However, we should have been awarded a penalty after half an hour when the player involved should have received a red card. Instead we were awarded a free-kick and were unlucky to hit the woodwork.
“Not long after they went down the other end and scored very much against the run of play due to an unforced error. And five minutes later they scored again to go in at half time two goals up.
“We lost Matty Rowan at half time through injury and had to obviously make an enforced change. Again, we looked the better team for a while but towards the end we switched off and paid the penalty.
Minehead: Turner, JJ Knight, Burge, Morris, Harvey-Lamar, Green, Jackson, Ronan, Burns, Prescott, Collins. Substitutes: Griffiths, Bruford (both used).
Elsewhere Combe St Nicholas swept to the top of the table after they hammered Keynsham Town Reserves 10-1 at home.
It meant Combe moved one point clear of previous leaders Portishead Town Reserves while Keynsham stayed rock bottom.
Results: Ashcott 5, Bishop Sutton 0; Clutton 3, Sporting Weston 1; Combe St Nicholas 10, Keynsham Town Reserves 1; Wrington Redhill 4, Minehead 0.
Minehead have no match this coming weekend (April 11) but play at home to Wrington Redhill next Wednesday hoping to gain quick revenge for their latest defeat.
