WATCHET Town were on the receiving end of another Saturday 8-1 trouncing when they visited title-chasing Wells City Reserves in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League.
After giving a gritty first half showing to trail by only 2-1 at the interval, the Red & Blacks fell apart following the halftime break against opponents who made use of their Western League first team not having a fixture by including more than a sprinkling of players who have made several appearances at the higher level.
For the second week running Watchet got off to the worst possible start when Wells cut through the heart of their defence to score inside the first minute.
Again the visitors held firm by keeping a shape, defending stoically when necessary and they were rewarded when they were gifted the opportunity to draw level. A misplaced pass in the home defence put Todd Willis in the clear with just the keeper to beat and he kept his head before rifling his shot past the advancing keeper into the top corner of the net.
Wells continued to have the lion's share of the possession, but the visitors worked hard all-round to deny them until the advancing right wing back drilled his shot just under the bar to regain his side's lead.
A sleepy Watchet conceded once more in the opening minute of a half to fall further behind and from there it was very much one-way traffic. As the score mounted the hosts were able to use all five of their substitutes at various intervals while Watchet had been forced to make their only available change at the start of the second half.
Watchet Town: Regan Gallagher, Max Bason, Connor Jeromson, Charley Clausen, Eben Harding, Zacc Binding, Ollie Webber, Josh Aspey, Billy Jones, Todd Willis, Lewis Clavey. Sub: Chase Clausen.
