PORLOCK Ladies were beaten 3-1 at Bishops Lydeard Reserves on Sunday in their penultimate game of the season in Division One of the Somerset Women’s County League.
The squad were excited to get some much-needed game time after a quiet couple of months and it didn’t stop their defence staying firmly unbreached well until the half-time whistle.
Despite tired legs and a few changes, bottom side Porlock still felt confident, as the scoreline reflected a well-balanced contest.
The Robins – now into the game – saw some great football, working the ball well on the ground with triangles and really showing strong teamwork and support for one another. Within 10 minutes, Kez Elson scored a brilliant goal from outside the box to put them on course for a third win of the season.
Bishops Lydeard responded quickly following a well-placed ball over the top, and further changes saw the home side bring on fresh legs. Porlock soon lost a defender due to injury, which soon ended with the hosts grabbing a second.
Despite battling hard to stay in the game, the home side managed a third with 20 minutes remaining as the visitors, who had no subs remaining due to two injuries, had to dig in.
They even created some chances to get back into the game as Elson had another good opportunity which wasn’t quite taken.
Porlock dug deep to prevent any further goals, despite carrying injuries and fatigue kicking in. Elson had another great chance from far again, but Bishop keeper did well to keep it out.
Chloe White had a dangerous run into the box to create another chance and Kayleigh Campbell-Farmer was threatening on the right wing where she put pressure on all the time, but a second goal wasn’t forthcoming.
Porlock’s player-of-the-match award went to Lauren Smith for an outstanding performance right across the pitch.
