SOPHIE Luff has been reappointed as captain of the Somerset CCC Women’s team for the 2026 season, which gets underway in earnest on Saturday, April 11.
Sophie made her Somerset debut in 2009 at the age of 15, and has remained heavily involved in the women’s game in the county. She captained Western Storm to success and in September 2024 was the first player given a professional contract with Somerset and captained them in 2025.
Women’s head coach Erin Osborne said: “Sophie Luff is remaining as captain – she is a wonderful person and sets the standards for our club, and she genuinely cares about Somerset cricket and wants us to do well. She sees the bigger picture, and not only wants to do well herself, she genuinely cares about the people around her so I think that we are fortunate to have her in that position.
“Niamh Holland and Bex Odgers will be supporting her as vice-captains, and I’m looking to seeing them evolve in that leadership group. When I had the opportunity to tell them they were so excited and I can just see that they’ve grown and matured and I think they will support Sophie really well in that leadership position.”
Regarding her reappointment, Sophie said: “It’s brilliant news, Somerset is my home club and this is something that I have always wanted to do. To be given the opportunity to lead the girls again this season is fantastic and Im glad that Erin has asked me to continue in the role.
Regarding her two vice-captains, she said: “We are keen to create more of a leadership group, to help me out both on and off the field which means I can delegate and give them a bit more responsibility.”
