MINEHEAD Under-12 Blues hosted unbeaten Tone Youth Wasps on a cold, windy, but thankfully, dry morning at The College.

The Blues came into the game on the back of a three-match unbeaten run and were full of confidence, but found themselves facing one of the league’s toughest sides.

From the first whistle it was clear this would be a tight contest, with both defences tested early. Ten minutes in, keeper Lou produced a superb one-on-one save to deny Tone’s speedy No.10, with defenders Buddy, Ben, and Henry, deployed in a defensive role, making vital tackles to keep the visitors at bay.

Tone finally broke the deadlock on 27 minutes, capitalising on a rebound after another fine save from Lou. Minehead responded well, with Finley going close just a minute later and midfielders Leon, Finley, Riley and George working tirelessly to regain control.

Up front, Oaklen battled relentlessly to find space against a well-organised Tone back line. The Blues regrouped at half-time trailing 1–0, but Tone struck again on 35 minutes when an effort, helped by the blustery wind, found its way past Lou to make it 2–0.

Alfie’s introduction added energy to the attack, nearly latching onto a long clearance from the Minehead keeper. Despite the scoreline, Minehead grew stronger as the half went on. George and Riley caused problems down the wings, while Oaklen, Leon and Karter tested the Tone goalkeeper with efforts from range.

Several goal efforts kept the home supporters on edge, but the Blues couldn’t quite force the breakthrough they deserved. The match finished 2–0 to Tone Youth, but the performance was full of heart, teamwork, and determination. Plenty of positives to build on as Minehead look ahead to this weekend’s away clash against Ruishton Youth Raiders.
