MINEHEAD kicked off the New Year in style in Division Three South of the Somerset Women’s Football League with an away match at Watchet where a clinical display saw them win in emphatic fashion.
The Blues were on top from the start with goals flowing as Mabel and Kayleigh shared the first seven between them in the first 25 minutes, both scoring with excellent finishing, completing first-half hat-tricks.
Joining the scoring to see out the first half were Emeral and Evie which made it 10-0 at the break..
It was more of the same in the second half. Jaz finished tidily from close range and Kayleigh getting her 4th and 5th.
Then, there was a slight lull in the scoring as the pacy Watchet forwards threatened, but Darcy and Kianna were always on hand to defend
On the hour the re-introduction of Emeral and Mabel resulted in a flurry of goals - the first getting 3 goals in 8 minutes to take her tally to 5, Mabel doing the same as she got her 5th and 25th for the season.
Following this spell, there was some rotation among the Blues. Lilly, deservedly got her first of the season. Courtney then joined the scoring with a quick-fire brace .Evie completed her hat-trick, and Kianna got a deserved goal in a weaving run to round off the scoring at 25-0.
While prolific in front of the goal, the foundations given from skipper Erin in midfield, Kianna, and joint player of the match Darcy at the back, resulted in a cleansheet and a largely relaxed feel to proceedings.
The Minehead Players of the Match were Darcy Walsh and Lilly Baker.
The Blues, who have a 100 per cent record, now look ahead to a double header with Pen Mill, the first coming away this Sunday before finally returning home on the 18th January.
