MINEHEAD Reserves went down to a thrilling 5-4 away defeat against title favourites Racehorse Rovers in Division One of the Taunton Saturday Football League.

The game was always going to be entertaining between two good footballing sides and the fun started in the third minute when a cross from the left from Josh Heath found Scott Kivell who slotted it past the advancing keeper.

However whilst play was evenly distributed it was Minehead that failed to deal with two balls bouncing about in their penalty area and both were punished by the home team to give them a 2-1 lead after 25 minutes.

It was now time for the strong midfield of Dan Vickers, Sam Jackson and the Heath brothers, Josh and Sam to dominate and it was Sam who netted an equaliser.

Myles Campbell-Farmer, Andy Gubb, JJ Knight and Oli Reaney worked hard to keep Racehorse at bay. Shortly after the lead was taken by Racehorse but Minehead equalised again through young Haiden Griffiths with a good shot giving the keeper no chance.

The second half saw the introduction of Jack Campbell-Farmer for the injured Reaney in defence. Keeper Nat Leader was in fine form pulling off two splendid saves but despite this it was Racehorse who went 4-3 up with 30 minutes to go.

Minehead brought on forwards Toby Waghorn and Riley Pope along with Eric Zachrison in defence. With 8 minutes left Dan Vickers calmly walked up to slot home a penalty for his 6th of the season. It looked like a win for Minehead when with 4 minutes to go Pope was through one in one but his strong shot went wide.

With a draw looking the result and probably fair, another mess up in defence saw Racehorse nip in for the winner with 90 seconds remaining. Man of the match:- Sam Heath Mark Vickers
