MINEHEAD FC Pirates Under-9s are celebrating after an impressive performance at the Henry David Cup at Watchet on Saturday, saw them retaining the title they won last year.

The young Pirates side battled through a competitive group style tournament, playing some lovely football, without conceding a goal which resulted in them topping their respective group.

Progress to the quarter final stages followed with a match against Minehead Mariners where a well fought contest played in the right spirit, finished 4-1 to the Pirates with three goals coming late on.

Progressing to the semi-final, the team came up against a resolute Taunton Town team and with the scores level, the match went straight to penalties. Minehead managed to hold their nerves and come through winning 3-2 in a tense shoot out.

The Pirates then delivered a standout display in the final against Staplegrove, earning a well-deserved victory 1- 0 to lift the trophy for the second year in a row.
