MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors played the fourth round of the Marshall Cup, at the conclusion of which the winning score belonged to Tim Evans with a nett 69. He was followed by a resurgent Malcolm Bruce in second position with a nett 70.
Third place was taken by Bob Arthington (nett 71), with all to play for in the final round next month.
A Multiplier competition began the week where the team of John Perkins, Tim Evans and Karl Granger won decisively with 84 points. In second position were Roger Read, Graham Troman and Neville Parsons with 81 points. Mark Ruttley, Richard Austwick and Mike O’Keefe took third place with 70 points.
The Seniors’ week culminated in the Barrett Cup with all 33 tee times occupied. The individual Stableford format was played in good conditions in what proved to be a close competition and at the end of the event it was Brendan Cleere who won on countback with 39 points. The runner up was Mike Kelly while Steve Gay took third place with a nett 38.
The Bryant Tankard was also played in the same competition. The tankard is awarded to the best score achieved by those Seniors over 80. Many congratulations also go to Neville Parsons who won decisively with a nett 36.
*Founded in 1882, Minehead & West Somerset is Somerset’s oldest golf club still playing on its original course and is one of the oldest golf clubs in the South West of England.
It is a links course based on Somerset’s north coast, and is open all year round and its greens are regarded as the best in the area.
It is host to numerous PGA, county and regional events - and the course is a stunning test of golf.
