MINEHEAD Reserves gained a 7-1 home win over Wellington Road Dons in a hastily arranged friendly which proved a good pre-season run out for both teams.

With a mixed team the Blues were dominant from the start and Fin Haran, playing in a forward role, scored after only two minutes with a fine finish over the inexperienced keeper’s head. Seventeen year old Haiden Griffiths scored next and in less than 10 minutes the result looked certain with Minehead encamped in the Dons half.

Haran made it 3-0 after 30 minutes and the midfield of Oli Jones, Dan Vickers and Josh Bruford ensured the pressure remained on. With a defence of Myles Campbell-Farmer, Charlie Disney, Andy Gubb and Haydn Phippen looking unlikely to be put under pressure it was a break away that allowed Dons to peg one back before half time. The management rang the changes in the second half, bringing on Jack Campbell-Farmer, Luke Batts, Alfie Cotterell, Lyam Scheepers and Tom Kennett; the play was seemless and it was Campbell-Farmer who scored a free kick from 35 yards and added a second 20 minutes into the half to make it 5-1. The last 10 minutes saw Griffiths score twice more to complete a fine first hat trick of the season. The Blues will have far more difficult challenges this season but this was good additional miles in the legs for many of the players. Man of the match: Fin Haran.
