WATCHET Town were unable to cause an upset last Saturday when they visited the early Division One pacesetters, Peasesdown Miners Welfare and were beaten 5-1 in Division One of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

Although the result may have been fairly predictable the visitors were able to take some consolation from a much-improved second half performance after they had trailed by 4 goals to nil at the interval.

Watchet went behind after 10 minutes when Sobers beat Regan Gallagher to a through ball and walked It into an empty net. A second followed when Avis was allowed to turn inside the box to fire a rasping drive in off the underside of the crossbar and it was soon 3-0 when a left wing cross was turned in from close range by Baker.

Another mauling looked on the cards for Watchet, but they thought they had pulled a goal back when Billy Jones steered home a pass from Todd Willis only to be the first to be denied by the linesman's flag. Watchet then held out until the stroke of half-time when Flynn became the second home player to round Gallagher before finding an open goal.

The visitors produced a gritty defensive display after the break which had their hosts repeatedly frustrated and midway through a long pass from Harvey Henderson released Chase Clausen on the right to provide a pass which the oncoming Jones tucked under the keeper.

A carbon copy build-up led to debutant Josh Weller also beating the keeper, but after originally overruling the linesman's flag the referee changed his mind. In the closing minutes Peasedown completed their nap hand following a disputed free kick.
