DUNSTER Dragons Under 14s suffered an 8-3 defeat at home to Galmington Dragons Raiders.
The visitors showed their intent straight from the whistle, with an effort hitting the bar, and minutes later another chance was saved by keeper Oscar Binnie.
But he couldn’t prevent the first goal, when a scramble in the box led to a loose ball somehow creeping under his body.
A period of end to end play ensued, with chances for both sides, and Binnie was again called upon to make a brave one-on-one save before Galmington doubled their lead when their striker broke free.
After some good build-up play, Jameson Brannigan was unlucky not to open Dunster’s account when his header from a Chris Barratt pass went inches over the bar, and Alfie Cotterell was also denied when his shot was deflected wide.
But Brannigan and Charlie Howell then linked up to provide a pass for Wills Walsh to coolly slot home and make it 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw Dunster quickly concede another goal, and Binnie and defenders Todd Turner, Greg Horrobin and Ryan Knowles were kept busy as the visitors came forward and built on their lead.
The midfield of Barratt, Cy Villenueva, Lochlan Ruston and Walsh worked tirelessly covering every inch of the pitch, and after Cotterell’s shot was pushed out for a corner after he had been played in by Ruston, Howell’s flag kick was met by Cotterell with an audacious overhead kick but it went straight into the keeper’s hands.
Brannigan had a shot saved before Walsh got on the end of a throw-in to score his second goal, and Barratt saw a long-range shot go just wide before Dunster’s third goal came when a cross from the right was met well by Ruston.
The last ten minutes saw more opportunities but Dunster couldn’t add to their score and the game finished 8-3.
Wills Walsh was both the players’ and parents’ man of the match.
