MINEHEAD Reserves secured a 2-2 draw at Bridgwater Sports in Division One of the Taunton and District Saturday League on Saturday. The Blues travelled looking to compete the league double and both sides looked dangerous with the visitors unusually playing the long ball up to Riley Pope and Haiden Griffiths who looked really dangerous.
It was from one such play that saw Sam Heath latch onto the ball 25 yards out and hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper.
However within three minutes Sports were level when a corner was headed in at the far post.
The play was fairly level with the Minehead defence of Oli Reaney, Andy Gubb, Finn Landon and Alfie Cotterell more than holding their own. Sports pressed as did Minehead and it was the Blues that scored withseven minutes of the half remaining when a poor pass out by the home keeper fell to Griffiths who lobbed the ball skilfully into an empty net from 30 yards. However, a half-time lead wasn’t to be when a high ball was spilled by the otherwise impeccable Tomasz Kubaczewski in goal to allow a simple tap-in.
The second half saw Dan Vickers enter the fray to join his brother Rob in the middle of the half. With Griffiths continuing to be a threat and the hard-working Scott Kivell a menace, Minehead were very much the better team.
However the closest they came to scoring was when Rob Vickers let fly with a fierce from 20 yards, only to see it come back off the post.
The visitors then breathed a huge sigh of relief when an indirect free-kick five yards out was blocked by Landon. Minehead saw the game out with 10 men with Gubb resting in the sin-bin having disputed the questionable back pass.Minehead are at home Saturday with Nether Stowey the visitors for a midday kick-off.
