SOMERSET’S young all-rounder Kian Roberts will be leaving the county when his contract expires at the end of this season.

The 19-year-old, who is a product of the Cornwall Pathway, made his Somerset debut in last year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup against Lancashire at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

Kian is a right-handed batter and right-arm bowler who attended Taunton School and plays his club cricket for Bridgwater CC. He was part of the Emerging Player Programme before progressing onto the Somerset Academy at the end of which he signed a one-year contract.

Kian’s form for the Second XI saw him named in the 2025 Metro Bank One Day Cup squad and his List A Somerset debut came in the competition against Lancashire at the Cooper Associates County Ground in August.

In 2026 he played in a further four Metro Bank One Day Cup games in which he scored 72 runs with a best of 32 which was against Surrey at Taunton on August 7. In that same match he enjoyed bowling figures of 2 for 53 from 8 overs. In total in 2026 Kia bowled 14 overs and claimed two wickets for 98 runs.

Altogether Kian played in six List A matches for the club, scoring 112 runs and taking three wickets.

Director of Cricket Andy Hurry said: “We would all like to thank Kian for his dedication and hard work throughout his time on the Somerset Pathway and within the professional environment.

“Everyone associated with the Club wishes Kian well in his future endeavours.”

Regarding his departure, Kian said: “It was a dream come true to play for Somerset, so I’m gutted to be leaving. Thanks to everyone who’s supported me along the way and hopefully this isn’t the end of my journey”
