SOMERSET Second XI rounded off their season with a three-day friendly match against their Worcestershire counterparts at Kidderminster, eventually going down by five wickets.

No play was possible on the opening day nor before lunch on the second but when the game did get underway Worcestershire won the toss and chose to ask their visitors to bat first.

Bertie Michael and Savin Perera shared an opening stand of 64 for Somerset before the former was out for 24.

Perera and Tom Kohler-Cadmore then added 132 for the second wicket. Kohler-Cadmore raced to 50 from just 29 balls and had reached 99 from 50 deliveries when he fell at 197 for two. Perera’s half century came from 53 balls.

By tea, the score had advanced to 258 for two. After the break, Perera (118 not out) and Will Smeed (124 from just 57 deliveries) saw Somerset reach 412 for four when the declaration came.

When the hosts batted Kohler-Cadmore took an early wicket as Worcestershire ended the day on eight for one, trailing by 404. In the morning the hosts declared on their overnight total of eight for one, trailing by 404.

Somerset forfeited their second innings, setting Worcestershire a target of 405 runs to win.

In the 17th over with the score on 94 Zach Vukusic made a breakthrough when he claimed one of the openers caught by ‘keeper Ben Church. Vukusic struck again with the total on 269 when he had Kashif Ali caught by Tom Watson for 119.

Harry Deering claimed a third wicket with the total on 332 and with the total on 367 Harvey Richards accounted for Seth Essenhigh for 132. The hosts eventually reached 406 for five to win by five wickets. Vukusic ended with 2 for 51.
