SOMERSET kept their dream of winning the County Championship alive when they beat Glamorgan by an innings and 64 runs - with a day to spare at Taunton.

The Cidermen took 23 points from this victory, the fifth of their campaign and with three games remaining, are in touching distance of that elusive title.

Vice captain Craig Overton has played a major part in the side this year and to date the 32 year old, who came through the Academy, has scored 651 runs with three centuries at an average of 43.40 and taken 34 wickets at 20.07.

Immediately after victory Craig said: “It’s every Somerset fans dream to be able to win the championship and it’s been a wait of more than 150 years to achieve it, so to be close like this is a great effort from the boys.

“However we know that we have got three games to go and we have to put good performances together and hopefully we are close to that come the back end of ‘September.” Regarding his own form he said: “ I have had a great summer and I’m just trying to keep that momentum going. The body is starting to creak a littler bit now but that’s how things are come September- it’s just about getting out on the park and making sure I’m ready when I am.”

How relevant to the way the team plays is it that so many have come through the Somerset Academy? “I think it’s pretty relevant, we have all got belief in each other and I think that comes with spending so much time together and growing up together. We are a very close knit group and that’s what will become important in these last three games when there will be times that it does get tricky and that closeness will get us through.”
