MINEHEAD Cricket Club are through to the next round of the Baker Cup Davies Bishop Trophy competition after they beat Taunton Deane Seconds by 30 runs at the Convent Fiekld on Monday evening.

After Minehead skipper Chris James and chose to bat the visitors found themselves 36 for 4 in the sixth over.

However Oli Ahern and captain James started a rescue operation and added 36 in 4 overs for the fourth wicket before Ahern was out for 15.

James was then joined by Sam Cobb and the fifth wicket pairing added 41 in 5 overs when the skipper was out for crucial 49 which came off 29 deliveries and included 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Young Cobb continued to bat sensibly and added 27 for the sixth wicket with Darren Sherring who made 13 before he was out and then a further 25 with Braden Taylor before the innings ended with Minehead on 165 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Cobb remained unbeaten on 23 off 22 balls with 2 fours while Rtaylor was 17 not out from 14 deliveries.

For the home side the pick of the bowlers was Alex Chaffey with 3 for 38 from his 5 overs.

When Deane replied the slipped to 45 for 3 in the seventh over, all three falling to Darren Sherring before opener Ben Osborne was joined by Jack Monsey.

The pair stemmed the flow of wickets and added 68 together before Braden Taylor bowled Monsey for 29, making Deane 113 for 4 in the 17th over.

Osborne remained until the last over before he was caught by Sherring off Bowditch for 60, shortly after which Deane ended their innings on 135 for 5, giving Minehead victory by 30 runs.

Sherring was the pick of the attack with 3 for 36 from his 5 overs.
