WATCHET Bowling Club (WBC) have enjoyed mixed fortunes again in inter-club matches in recent weeks.
However, they would have been particularly pleased with their four-shot win over Ilminster in the National Club Two Fours Knock-out Competition.
Saturday, 21st June, saw Watchet Bowls Club travel to Crewkerne for their latest County League match. And, in incredibly hot and humid conditions, Watchet found their opponents in good form and fell to a defeat by 13 shots overall but, picking up two points for a rink win.

The following day saw Watchet travel to Williton in the mixed Exmoor Trophy League - and this match produced a far different result. Williton took the honours, winning on four of the six rinks in play and overall by 42 shots, to claim 12 points to Watchet’s 4. Loss 12-19; Chrissie Bendle, Norma Wilkinson, and Tickle Daley, Win 26-19; Marilyn Binding, Jackie Hutchings, and Phil Bowden, Loss 10-19. Overall result, Loss WBC 89 shots (4 points) v Williton 131 shots (12 points).
Watchet hosted Ilminster in the National Club Two Fours knockout competition. Watchet players put on a great display to beat their opponents, who include a few current and former England Internationals, by four shots.
Watchet now advance to the area final where they will play against Victoria Weston on a neutral green, with the date stil to be decided. Saturday, 28th June, saw the return of the County League with both Watchet teams playing. Watchet A visited Portishead RBL A and came away victorious, winning on two of three rinks and overall by13 points. Watchet picked up ten points to Portishead RBL’s two points.

Overall result, Loss WBC 61 shots (10 points) v Portishead RBL 48 shots (2 points).
Watchet B were at home to Yeovil C where they slipped to a defeat by the narrow margin of only five shots, picking up two points for a winning rink.
