NATIONAL Grid engineers worked through the early hours of Saturday (August 15) to repair a fault which left more than 70 Minehead properties without power.

The outage happened shortly before 1 am in The Parks area of the town and impacted a total of 74 homes and businesses.

A National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) spokesperson said there had been a fault on low voltage underground power cables in the area.

NGED initially told residents it estimated it would have electricity supplies restored by 11 am.

But, the fault was fixed quicker than expected and more than half of the properties were reconnected shortly after 4 am and the last of the premises was back on supply at 10.19 am.
