AN independent opticians which has served the Minehead community for more than a century is entering a new chapter under the leadership of a new director.

Cranmers Optometrists, in Park Street, first opened its doors in 1908, and some of its current patients have been with the practice for more than 40 years.

The firm has strengthened its clinical team with the appointment of Godswill Ofoegbu as director and optometrist, plus additional resident optometrist Daniel Hill.

Mr Ofoegbu came to Minehead after more than 16 years' experience in optometry in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and the UK.

He has a particular clinical interest in dry eye management and enhanced community eye care, holding qualifications in glaucoma and minor eye condition services, with plans to begin independent prescribing training later this year.

Mr Ofoegbu said: "It is an honour to be taking on this role at a practice with such a proud history.

“I hope to build on that legacy by introducing even more enhanced clinical services, particularly around dry eye management and children's eye care, while continuing to provide the personalised service that patients know and trust."

Mr Hill has worked in optometry for 14 years and alongside a keen interest in dry eye care, he has specialist qualifications in low vision and medical retina, supporting patients with complex eye conditions and making full use of the practice's advanced imaging technology.

He said: "I am particularly passionate about helping patients with low vision, and I am really looking forward to further strengthening our links with the local community while expanding the services we can offer in practice."

Following its merger with Exmoor Eyecare in 2021, the practice has continued to enhance its clinical services through advanced diagnostic technology, expanded services, and a growing team of experienced professionals in order to expand specialist carer for patients of all ages.
