MINEHEAD'S poor form continued in their last game of the season at the Recreation Ground on Tuesday evening as they suffered their tenth home league defeat against Dawlish Town, who completed the double over the Blues.

With only one home league victory in the last five months, Minehead were soon under pressure but again stand-in goalkeeper Nick Stone displayed excellent handling and Mark Forrester and John Rackley both wasted good scoring chances for the visitors.

In a typical end of season encounter, a best forgotten first half ended goal-less with the Dawlish custodian Jamie Day not having a single shot to save.

After the interval the play began to improve and a powerful long shot by Mark Jermyn was well held by Stone.

However, in the 53rd minute Dawlish took a well deserved lead when Dave Stocker drove the ball into the net, giving the unprotected Stone no chance.

Substitute Shane Porter replaced Andy Payne and after Andy Reader had cleared a dangerous situation it required a brilliant save by Stone to stop Jason Heath increasing the visitors' lead.

With Steve Nicholls replacing Lee Porter, another fine save by Stone kept Minehead in with a chance.

In the 75th minute the visitors' keeper was called into action for the first time when he saved at full length from Shane Porter, but play quickly switched to the other end as Andy Raybould broke clear to increase the lead for Dawlish with a powerful shot.

Leading scorer Nicky Woon then forced Day to save at full length as Minehead strived to salvage something from the game and, with five minutes remaining, the home supporters were given a slight glimmer of hope when Steve Nicholls set up Dave Burr who headed home from close range.

Minehead: N Stone, P Thorpe, A Reader, M McKenna, D Knowling, L Porter, A Payne, M Brereton, N Woon, D Palfrey, D Burr, subs S Porter, S Nicholls (both used).
