WATCHET Town will be looking to step up the pressure at the top of Division One in the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League when they play at home to Ashton & Backwell United tomorrow (Sat, 2p.m.).

The Seasiders are still lying fourth even though their game away to Ashcott was called off last weekend because of fog and frost.

Watchet go into the match seven points behind the leaders Staplegrove who produced the result of the day when they beat Burnham United 8-1 away last Saturday.

Grove have 26 points from 13 games while Wathcet are on 19 points with three matches in hand.

Nick Sully, one of Watchet’s three-man management team, said today: “We will definitely have players missing tomorrow.

“It’s always nice if you can field a settled side but that’s not always possible. We will always be competitive.

Minehead, 6-4 winners away to bottom side Castle Cary last weekend, face another long trip tomorrow with a visit to the outskirts of Bath where they face Peasedown Minors Welfare in a county league game in the same division.

The first ever game between the sides was contested in December, 1911, when they met in the final of the Somerset Charity Cup at Yeovil. The game ended in a 0-0 draw but the replay at Weston a week later saw Minehead romp home 4-0 to win the cup.
