WATCHET Town and Minehead found themselves with a blank Saturday after their away matches in the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League were postponed because of the wet weather.
Watchet, who have yet to win a match in the Premier Division this season, were due to play away to highflyers Ashton & Backwell United.
“The game was called off on Friday afternoon,” said Watchet boss NIck Sully. “It gave us plenty of time in which to inform the players.”
Three matches were played in the Premier and First Division Cup with Nailsea United maintaining their fine form with a 4-0 away victory over Staplegrove.
Sporting Weston went through to the next round with a 3-0 home success against Chard Town while Stockwood Green gained a 6-2 home victory over Congresbury.
In the league, Nailsea have a one-point lead at the top over Wells City Reserves, with both sides having played 12 games. Ashton & Backwell are a further three points adrift and have played one more match than their title rivals.
Minehead, now managed by former player Lee Todd, should have played Clutton in the first division but this fixture was one of many affected by the atrocious weather.
However, Portishead Town Reserves did manage to play their home game against Westfield and won 3-1 to open up a three-point lead at the top of the first division.
In the only other match played in the division, struggling Bishop Sutton went down to a 3-2 home defeat against Keynsham Town Reserves who won their first game of the season after eight starts.
It means that Bishop Sutton are still without a win this season and are three points adrift at the bottom of the table with much to do if they are going to avoid relegation.
