THE weather was kind when the End of Year Orienteering event organised and run by Number 1 West Somerset took place at Dunster Castle.
The event is offered to year 4 pupils to celebrate the end of their term before many move to new schools in September.
Eighty-five children from St Michaels First School, Minehead First School and Dunster First School gathered to take part in the event around the castle grounds.
Suzanne Richards from the organisers said: “We are very grateful to Dunster Castle, National Trust, for allowing us to use the venue.
“It is simply stunning and gives the children an opportunity to enjoy and explore the environment.
“The orienteering allows them to see all the nooks and crannies of the grounds while navigating between controls on a pre-planned courses.”
The course, set up by Number 1 West Somerset, used the outdoors to practise and embed the skills of navigation and map skills as well as using green space to provide physical activity.
The organisers would like to say a massive thank-you to everyone who attended the event, which could not have happened without the support and drive of teachers, teaching assistants, minibus drivers and everyone who contributed in any way.
Finally, a big thank-you for the Number 1 West Somerset coaching team that helped make it a smoothly run operation.
Suzanne added: "This is one of my favourite events and I always look forward to planning and leading it with my team who help it run like clockwork".
